In the fall of 2002, Cindy S. hosted the first Alaska Advance in a community church in Eagle River, AK. The group of about 20 women were mostly in, but not limited to, the same sponsorship line. Cindy patterned the format for the day long "Advance" - (rather than "retreat") after her own sponsor's (Peg M.) annual event. The group gathered in an intimate circle. Leaders read a selection of 12 step materials and shared their experience, strength and hope with the group. Each woman was asked to please share only once, but everyone was encouraged to share.
Today, the Advance has grown to a weekend long. affair, open to all women in recovery. Guest speakers from around the world, recovery based literature, as well as crafts, games and Alaskan Campfire Connections make for a fun, replenishing and memorable weekend event.
The purpose of The Alaska Advance for Women in Recovery is to create fellowship, and to bring enthusiastic, structured recovery to women in Alaska.
We invite you to join us on this broad highway.
